Free MMCD Tire Recycling Program
Wed Jun 4th 2025
Location: Call MMCD at 651-645-9149
Due to increased demand and limited staff time, the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District’s tire recycling program for 2025 will not be picking up tires at residences this year.
Instead, in Dakota, Carver, and Scott Counties the MMCD are piloting free tire recycling events at set locations. On select dates, people can drop off up to 20 standard car tires at no cost to District residents. Tires must be off the rims and visitors must show proof of residence.

Waste tires create habitat that can be conducive for container breeding mosquitoes, including species that can vector diseases like West Nile virus or La Cross encephalitis. Removing these tires is an important part of MMCD’s public health mission. In 2024 due to well above average rainfall totals, field staff had to prioritize response to floodwater mosquito broods (using helicopters, drones, and other methods) and time was limited to collect and recycle waste tires. We feel offering designated drop-off days will give residents a quick opportunity to eliminate this mosquito breeding habitat and will help prioritize staff time.
The first drop-off day for Scott and Carver County residents will be June 4th and the first drop-off day for Dakota County residents will be June 11th. Residents should call MMCD at 651-645-9149 to notify about tire drop-off and learn the time and locations of the events. Pending success of the first two events, additional dates will be added later in the summer.
We encourage residents with questions about the tire recycling program to call MMCD at 651-645-9149. City officials can contact me directly at the phone numbers or e-mail address below.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping District residents healthy!
