Helena Township Board of Supervisors Road Review Minutes
Minutes of April 27, 2023 | New Prague Fire Hall
Spring Road Review began at 3:30 p.m. at the New Prague Fire Hall.
Present: Chairperson John Wermerskirchen, Supervisor Edward Nytes, Supervisor Duane Deutsch, Road Overseer Jeff Haag, and Clerk Heather M. Taylor DuCharme. Not present: Deputy Clerk DeAnn Croatt and Treasurer Nathan Hutton.
Haag drove one truck and Deutsch drove one truck. Both trucks were in contact during the entire road review through use of an open phone line. Taylor DuCharme took notes for minutes.
- Raven (blacktop). Good. Ditches Good.
- Lavonne (blacktop). Good. Ditches Good.
- Pearl (blacktop). Good. Ditches Good.
- Steven (blacktop). Good.
- Michelle (blacktop). Good.
- Bohnsack. Check with Johnson re: scarifying. Future discussion of possibility of working with homeowners to replace mailboxes at corner with swing-aways (5546; 5550).
- 270th. Add red rock from CR 11 to Naylor. Add red rock from Naylor corner to curve at farm and turnaround.
- Naylor. Add red rock.
- St. Benedict. Good.
- 255th. Good.
- 252nd. Mark culvert with two posts with MDOT chevrons. Add gravel to road. Fix turnaround with two loads of gravel.
- 255th. Good.
- Indian Avenue. Good.
- St Benedict. Good.
- 250th. Add a couple of loads of red rock.
- St. Benedict. Good.
- 240th. Good.
- 245th. Good.
- 225th. Add dust coating at 12’ wide in anticipation of additional traffic from CR 21 roundabout construction.
- Hunter Ridge (blacktop). Good for now. It is already on the five-year plan.
- Vermont. Could use a couple of loads of gravel. Do not add ditch at this time pursuant to property owner request.
- 220th. Add gravel.
- Camber. Add two loads of red rock on top of the hill and work it down toward CR 8. Trim tree at curve.
- Xanadu. Add gravel or red rock. Ask Johnson about how many truck loads needed to per mile.
- 240th. Good.
- 245th. Cut tree at corner of Xanadu and 245th corner.
- 250th. No gravel. Fix/add more crown. Hasn’t had gravel since 2009.
- 257th. Add class five gravel. Hasn’t had gravel since 2009.
- 240th (west side). Add class five gravel.
240th (east side). Good. Do not add gravel. Last gravel added in 2016Drexel.
- Drexel/225th. Good.
- Zumbro/223rd/Redwing Trail. Good.
- 229th. Good.
- MarDen (blacktop). Good.
- Baseline. Trim tree in right of way.
- WCLD (blacktop). Looks good. Ditch project in process.
- Pexa. Trim trees. Remove tree in ditch. Replace missing/bent signs.
- SMD.
- 255th. Good.
Willow. (A) Cul de sac island grass fine – do not add more.
Willow. (B) Cul de sac island good. Pot hole should be repaired with cold patch.
- Cedar Lane. Reviewed regarding potential roundabout proposed for camper cabin entrance.
- Baseline. Good.
- 270th. Add a little gravel/red rock to top off from Baseline to Drexel. Keep an eye on the creek for possible clean up.
- Alton. Good.
- Columbus. Add gravel. Skip corner on dust coating.
- 265th. Add gravel.
- Juniper and Willow. Not checked.
Picked up rug for garbage. There was discussion of: (a) possible additional traffic on gravel roads because of CR 21 roundabout construction, (b) CR 21 roundabout public open house at Jordan City Council Chambers 4/26/2023, (c) bridges checked during road review, (d) discussion of dust coating needs, (e) MAT email from Norman County townships no longer part of MAT. Mileage driven was 67 miles. Road Review ended at 6:40 p.m.
